Roomix Raises £850K to Expand Custom Furniture Platform for Families

Roomix Secures £850K Investment to Revolutionize Family-Focused Custom Furniture

Roomix, a UK-based custom furniture brand, has successfully secured £850,000 in fresh investment, propelling its expansion and reimagining the way families furnish their homes. This funding round pushes the startup's total capital raised since its 2022 launch to over £1 million.

Founded by Shona Chalmers and Mark Apter, Roomix is on a mission to make bespoke furniture more accessible to modern families. The platform connects customers with a network of artisan joinery workshops across the UK, producing made-to-order, customisable pieces that evolve with families as they grow and change.

This latest funding round, backed by Simply Scaling, Syndicate Room, and several sector-focused angel investors, including continued support from Fuel Ventures, will help Roomix expand into new product categories and markets. The investment will also strengthen the company’s supply chain and enhance its proprietary Supplier Portal, a cutting-edge technology platform designed to streamline coordination with local makers.

Since launching, Roomix has positioned itself as a sustainable alternative to fast furniture, driven by a successful £200k crowdfunding campaign. The company's zero-inventory model reduces waste, making personalised furniture more affordable and accessible while ensuring faster delivery times. Each piece is crafted to order, eliminating the need for traditional warehousing and mass production.

"Our goal is to bring truly custom design to everyday families," said Shona Chalmers, co-founder and CEO. "Roomix is all about providing high-quality, durable furniture that adapts to the evolving needs of modern families — from nurseries and home offices to multifunctional living spaces. This funding allows us to expand on that mission with new innovations and a wider network of skilled makers."

Roomix has quickly made a name for itself with its best-selling toddler furniture range, designed around Montessori principles. Popular products include toddler towers, weaning tables, and adjustable desks that evolve with children’s developmental stages. Safety, functionality, and style are at the core of Roomix’s offerings, with customizable add-ons tailored to individual family lifestyles.

To support its growing customer base, Roomix recently underwent a brand refresh and launched a new website, reflecting the company's expanding product catalogue. As demand for sustainable and design-forward alternatives to flat-pack furniture increases, Roomix is well-positioned to lead the "slow furniture" movement.

“Consumers are tired of disposable products that don’t last or fit their space,” added Chalmers. “By combining craftsmanship with modern convenience, Roomix is redefining what custom furniture can look like for young families.”

With this latest investment, Roomix plans to extend its presence across the UK and Europe, introduce new family-centric product lines, and further invest in logistics and operational technologies to streamline the customer experience.

Roomix’s model taps into a growing demand for personalisation, transparency, and sustainability in home design — trends that have only accelerated in the post-pandemic era. With this significant funding raise, the company is poised to challenge established players and bring bespoke, high-quality design into the mainstream family home.
